The European Committee of Central Balance-Sheet Data Offices (ECCBSO) is an informal body whose members consist of experts either from the Central Balance-Sheet Data Offices belonging to or associated with the National Central Banks (NCB) of the European Community, or from National Statistical Institutions. The main task of the ECCBSO is to improve the analysis of Non-financial corporate enterprises data through the exchange of information and joint studies, on the basis of the work realized by the national central balance-sheet data offices which collect, store and diffuse descriptive and accounting firm data and, starting from these information, realize economic and financial research. The Chairman is elected every three years among the persons in charge of the Institutions joining the Committee. The Secretariat is ensured by the body whose representative has been elected as Chairman and lasts during his mandate. The meetings of the ECCBSO take place at least once a year. The Committee has developed two databases: namely the Bank for Accounts of Companies Harmonized (BACH), in co-operation with the European Commission, and the European Sectoral references Database (ESD). This new website contains : - The complete decomposition of the balance sheet and income statement, available in terms of weighted average (BACH dataset). Currently, the database contains information on the financial statements of companies in nine countries (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and Spain), aggregated by sector and by size class. Potential users are the same as those for whom financial statements are generally prepared : economic and research departments and universities, company managers and investors, government agencies … - The 28 ratios of the former ESD dataset, calculated in quartiles and in a weighted average, by sector and by size class (BACHESD dataset). The data-base currently includes ratios from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. The different samples represent a relatively large coverage. This tool is primarily designed for users within financial institutions as an additional tool for their risk analysis. The ratios offered focus on financial structures, cash-flow and profitability.
